This last Saturday my friends Katherine, Brian, Kel and I attended Holi, the Festival of Colors, at the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork, Utah. Holi is a Hindu festival where participants usher in Spring by throwing colored powder (or water) and burning an effigy of Holika.
Driving through Utah County (land of Mormon’s and livestock) and ending up at a Mughal-style Krisha temple is a little surreal, although the snow-covered mountains make an incredible backdrop. It was a gorgeous day, filled with llamas, vegetarian food, Indian dancing, the burning of an effigy and lots and lots of sweet smelling, colored dust.
In my search for pictures I found this wonderful article at Boston.com featuring some amazing photos from festivals in Indian cities.
