Bunnies On Crack

My rabbits were out of control this morning. I wasn’t even able to get the best of it recorded. But here’s a tasty little morsel.

Adventures in Rabbit Dating II

1 Bathtub, 2 Defeated Bunnies

1 Bathtub, 2 Defeated Bunnies

Well, I resisted the urge to get a new bunny. But I must admit there was a fair amount of “bunny mania” before I was talked down from that ledge. Instead, I’ve decided to give Squirrel and Radar one last chance to bury the hatchet and become the happy lesbian couple that I know they can be.

There have been a number of bunny bonding sessions so far, all of which I would call a success. If Squirrel could speak English, she would tell a different story. One of terror (from car rides), rage (against Radar for existing) and  frustration (at being squirted in the face with water). BUT, I think Squirrel and I would agree that indifference is in the air! Yes, indifference is a good thing, at least at this stage in the game.

Rabbits are complex little critters. Bonding them can be quite a feat, but once accomplished, the little sweeties bond for life. And when you see two little fuzzballs sitting so close that they’re practically overlapping, even on a hot summer day, all of the bonding effort feels completely worth it (or so I hope).

I’m using this wonderful article as my bonding bible and its been really quite helpful. I’ve bonded a pair of rabbits before (Radar and Buddy) but it was extremely quick and took about 3 days. According to this article, an easy bonding will take around 2 weeks, a tough one will take 3-4 months and the toughest ones can take 6 months – 1 year. I have a feeling that this love connection is going to take around a month. Radar is extremely calm, relaxed, never attacks and does her best to act submissive (sticking her chin to the ground, inviting Squirrel to give her some licks). But Squirrel on the other hand is high strung, anxious, distrustful and unwilling to give much licking. Still, I think Radar’s patience will prevail in the end. We shall see…
